Metro Journal Online Included in Kerala Media List Following Government Empanelment
Thiruvananthapuram: The Information and Public Relations Department of the Kerala Government has released its order empaneling online media outlets and determining their media list and advertisement rates.
Metro Journal Online (.com) has successfully secured a place on this prestigious list. This recognition follows Metro Journal’s prior accreditation from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s Self-Regulation Body under the Central Government. Metro Journal is also a member of JMA India, an organization for online media. With this empanelment, Metro Journal Online will now be eligible to receive advertisements from the state government and its affiliated institutions at the revised rates.
Out of hundreds of applications, an expert committee selected approximately 50 online media platforms for the list. This list includes online news portals of prominent newspapers and channels. Various factors such as readership and technical excellence were considered in the preparation of the list. The government had formed an expert committee in 2017 to study and submit a report for revising the media list and advertisement rates for print, visual, and online media.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, applications were invited from online media outlets, requesting details about their readership and other relevant information. In response to the call for applications in 2021, over a thousand applications were received. However, the criterion mandating offices and sufficient staff within the state narrowed down the applicants to 420. Further, considering the suggestions from organizations like JMA India, a daily readership of one lakh was set as a prerequisite, further reducing the list to under a hundred. To verify the daily readership, the PRD was granted access to the Google Analytics of the online media platforms.
Metro Journal Online has proudly achieved a significant milestone, increasing its daily readership from two lakhs two years ago to approximately four lakhs today. Besides Google advertisements, online media also have access to a substantial volume of private advertisements. With the government’s order officially approving the media list and advertisement rates, it is expected to benefit private advertisers as well.
